Legal frameworks for settling maritime disputes

Legal frameworks for settling maritime disputes

The Introduction

Maritime transport has always reigned supreme among other modes of transport, with approximately 85% of global trade carried across the seas and oceans. The legal framework governing maritime transport contracts, including charter ship contracts and marine insurance contracts, is linked to numerous international transport agreements that regulate their implementation and define the obligations of the parties involved. As long as international freight transport continues, more accidents, damages, and losses at sea are expected, typically resulting in a variety of disputes, claims, and compensations. This necessitates a diverse range of legal frameworks to address and resolve such disputes and claims.
